Learning Opportunities
The Arc in cooperation with the Bereavement group has arranged a day of information and support , Growing Connections: Finding High Quality Supports, on a wide variety of topics for individuals, families and caregivers. Participants will be able to choose which topics best fits their individual needs. You may attend one or all of the sessions. Session topics include:PATH, Building The Dream, Funeral Preplanning, Dealing with Grief and Loss, Asset Based Community Development, Planning for Life after High School, EPRO (Empowered People Reaching Out), Creating Fun and Friendship and Agencies and Networks That Can Help. The School to Adult Transition Series meetings are held on various Wednesdays at Janet Clemmons Center, located at 282 N. Fair Avenue in Hamilton, 6 -7:30. These sessions provide timely information to families as they get their teenager ready for life after high school. Teenagers are encouraged to attend a separate meeting to discuss issues relating to their future plans including work. All parents are welcome but children must be eligible for MRDD services and register with Patty at 678-9195 or email pattyo39@aol.com. Meeting dates include Jan28, Feb. 11 & 25, March 11 & 25, April 8 & 22, May 6 & 20.
Summer Adventures for Kids 5th Annual Expo will be held on Saturday, March 7th from 11 -4 pm at the Tri-County Mall. This events pairs children and adults of all ages, needs, abilities and developmental disabilities with a wide variety of opportunities for summer and year round. Families will find local, state and regional vendors who offer activities from science to sports, therapy to theatre, and day camp to dance class! Questions call BCMRDD at 867-5924.
Building Family Resiliency Symposium will be held at the Cintas Center at Xavier University on Friday, April 3rd from 12-8:30pm. This event will give families raising children with special needs the opportunity to share information on community resources. The Disability Network of Ohio is pleased to announce the 10th anniversary of the Solidarity 2009 Conference on April 14-16th. It will be held at the Hyatt Regency, 350 N. High Street in Columbus. The 3 day conference promotes the inclusion of people with disabilities and works to enrich the quality of lofe and productivity by offering awareness and education. Special Olympics bowling for young high school students and adults takes place every Saturday at Eastern Lanes on Coles Rd. Middletown. Bowling begins promptly at 1:00 p.m. and cost is $4.00 for two games. For more information call Susan at 392-5541.
